What Our City is Doing

Thornton's Energy Vision: Thornton will lead the way in creating a more resilient community through energy efficiency improvements and the adoption of energy sources that reduce carbon emissions from municipal operations while also facilitating equitable access to energy programs and opportunities for residents and businesses.

In 2019-2020, representatives from the City of Thornton, Xcel Energy, United Power, GRID Alternatives, and Adams 12 Five Star School District worked together to create Thornton's first Energy Action Plan through Xcel Energy's Partners in Energy Program. Now the City of Thornton is working to implement this plan, to move the Thornton community toward its energy efficiency and renewable energy goals.

What Residents Can Do

SIGN UP FOR A FREE HOME ENERGY SQUAD® VISIT
Home Energy Squad® is the perfect way to begin your journey toward lower energy bills and a more comfortable, more efficient home. For a limited time, residents who get their electricity from Xcel Energy can receive a FREE Home Energy Squad visit, thanks to discounts provided by the City of Thornton. Participants will receive $200 worth of energy-saving help such as thermostat adjustments, installation of faucet aerators and efficient lighting, and recommendations for other energy-saving projects.

A standard in-home visit typically takes about 2 hours and includes:

1. Switching out traditional, inefficient lighting for more efficient LED bulbs
2. Replacing showerheads with energy-efficient models
3. Weather-stripping drafty exterior doors
4. Installing a programmable thermostat
5. Adding aerators to kitchen and bathroom faucets

Looking for even more? Sign up for a Home Energy Squad Plus visit to receive all the benefits of Home Energy Squad with the bonus of a professional home energy audit. The City of Thornton will cover $50 of the cost, so you'll pay just $100 (but will receive a $600 value!). Added services include:

1. Thorough inspection of home exterior, insulation, and mechanical systems
2. Air leak analysis with a blower door diagnostic test
3. Infrared imaging and analysis
4. Full summary report with findings and recommendations
